This 36″x24″ book poster contains the full text of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. Here, the title character Robinson Crusoe (AKA Robinson Kreutznaer) stands gazing out at his shipwrecked vessel from the Island of Despair.
First published in 1719, Robinson Crusoe follows the adventure-filled life of the title character, a Englishman who simply cannot resist the siren call of the sea. He lives through not one but several shipwrecks as well as kidnapping, enslavement, and cannibals.
Robinson Crusoe was immediately well received among critics and the public, and it has lived on as one of the most widely read books in the Western world. Although written in a simple style (and often considered a young adult novel), Robinson Crusoe remains one of the earliest and most important works of English literature.
This novel was so groundbreaking and widespread that it inspired its own genre! Sometimes called the “Robinsonade,” these stories revolve around desert islands or the castaway trope.
